Poco F6 Pro Specs Review: NOT Just Gaming

The Poco F6 Pro is a formidable mid-range smartphone that offers a compelling blend of performance and features at an affordable price point. Built with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 3200x1440 resolution, it promises vibrant visuals and smooth operation with a 120Hz refresh rate. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and equipped with 12GB of RAM, the F6 Pro ensures a seamless and responsive user experience, whether for everyday use or intense gaming sessions. The device also impresses with its 50MP main camera, 120W fast charging for its 5,000mAh battery, and a sleek design that combines a metal frame with a glass back. Despite some minor drawbacks like pre-installed bloatware and the absence of wireless charging, the Poco F6 Pro stands out as a robust choice in the mid-range market.

 Design

As far as modern smartphones go, the Poco F6 Pro isn’t anything remarkable in terms of design. It features a 6.67-inch display and weighs just over 200 grams, giving it a proper heft. The design is a bit iPhone-esque, though not quite as chunky. Wish it was rounded edges, the slight curvature around the back makes it somewhat more comfortable to hold than an iPhone, though only barely.

The front is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, which is somewhat surprising for a Pro model, especially since the regular Poco F6 apparently has Gorilla Glass Victus. However, it does come with a pre-installed screen protector. The bezels aren’t horrifically chunky, and the selfie camera cutout is suitably small. The metal frame stretching around the edge lends a more premium vibe to the device. The back is also made of glass, though not specified as Gorilla Glass. After a week of use, it has remained scratch-free, which is more than I can say for my previous phones.

You have a choice of two colors: black or white. The matte finish on the back is highly resistant to fingerprints, though the glossy area around the camera lenses does attract dust and muck.

 Hyper OS and Features

The Poco F6 Pro runs on Xiaomi’s latest Hyper OS, layered on top of an Android 14. Xiaomi has promised three OS updates (Android 15,Android 15, 16, and 17) and four years of security patches, which is reassuring. The built-in optical fingerprint sensor is quick and responsive, and face unlock is available as a backup.

Hyper OS offers extensive customization options, including theming and an always-on display. Xiaomi's security app helps keep the phone running efficiently, and the blocklist feature filters out spammy content. The gaming mode boosts performance and blocks notifications, making it a great choice for gamers. However, the phone is loaded with crapware, which I recommend deleting to streamline your experience.

 Display and Audio

The Poco F6 Pro features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 3200x1440 pixels. It supports 12-bit color reproduction, HDR 10, and Dolby Vision streaming, making for a vibrant and detailed viewing experience. The display settings offer various color modes, and the high brightness mode reaches up to 1200 nits, with peak local brightness hitting 4,000 nits. This ensures excellent visibility even in bright sunlight.

The refresh rate maxes out at 120Hz, which can be manually set to either 60Hz or 120Hz. The phone also features a stereo speaker setup with Dolby Atmos support. While not as loud as the regular F6 speakers, the audio quality is slightly better. However, in noisy environments, you might struggle to hear what's being said. Unfortunately, there is no headphone jack, so you'll need to rely on Bluetooth or a dongle for wired audio.

 Performance and Gaming

The Poco F6 Pro is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, coupled with 12GB of RAM. This combination ensures smooth performance for everyday tasks and demanding applications. The gaming mode enhances performance, and the high touch sampling rate of 2160Hz makes it ideal for online shooters like PUBG.

The Poco F6 Pro stays cool under pressure, thanks to its LiquidCool Technology 4.0. However, connectivity could be better. I experienced weaker reception compared to other smartphones, particularly in rural areas.

 Battery Life

The Poco F6 Pro is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than its predecessor, the Poco F5 Pro Poco F5 Pro. Despite this, the battery life is impressive. I consistently managed to get through a full day of heavy use, including gaming, video streaming, and camera usage, with around 10-15% charge remaining by bedtime.

The phone supports 120W fast charging, which can power the battery from dead to full in about 20 minutes. Unfortunately, there is no support for wireless charging, so you’ll need to rely on cables.

 Camera

The Poco F6 Pro features a triple camera setup, headlined by a 50MP light fusion 800 sensor with optical image stabilization. Xiaomi’s camera app has improved over the years, offering fast access to various toggles and modes like voice shutter and motion tracking focus.

The primary camera produces vibrant, visually appealing photos with enhanced colors. HDR performance is solid, handling tricky lighting situations well. In low light, the camera performs admirably, capturing fine details with minimal grain. The 8MP ultra-wide lens delivers similar results to the main sensor, though it struggles more in low light. The 2MP macro lens is underwhelming, as expected. For high-resolution shots, the 50MP mode allows for detailed images that can be cropped as needed.

Video can be recorded at up to 8K resolution at 24fps, or 4K at 30 or 60fps. The phone’s director mode lets you adjust settings like white balance, and you can use other devices as camera monitors. Even in regular video mode, stabilization is reliable, and low-light footage is decent.

The 16MP front camera is okay but tends to overexpose shots with backlighting, and its night performance isn’t great.

 Verdict

Overall, the Poco F6 Pro is a fantastic mid-range smartphone with strong performance, an impressive display, and excellent battery life. Its camera setup, while not perfect, delivers good results in most conditions. The design is solid, though some might find the pattern on the back polarizing. The sheer amount of crapware is a downside, but it’s manageable.

If you’re looking for a powerful, affordable smartphone with a great screen and battery life, the Poco F6 Pro is worth considering.
